Have you ever seen an Indian Blackbuck or a Red Panda? What about South American monkeys? Well you can see all of the above and heaps more at this terrific little zoo, which is under 15km from us at Montville Mountain Inn.
The zoo is right next door to the Big Pineapple on the Nambour connection road and it is called the Wildlife HQ Zoo. (It was originally Alma Park Zoo – that relocated to this site in 2014).
Wildlife HQ is home to native and exotic animals from around the world. The story of Wildlife HQ is akin to the one of Noahs’ Ark. Zoo owner, Julie Seabrook and her team of dedicated Keepers, undertook the mammoth task of moving 200 animals from Alma Park Zoo (just north of Brisbane) to their new home at Wildlife HQ. If you thought moving home was tough, try packing a herd of Indian Blackbuck, Red Pandas and troops of South American monkeys, a bearcat, and a pack of dingos plus a whole lot more.
Although the zoo isn’t as big or as famous as Australia Zoo – it is jammed packed full of animals, from Australia, Africa, South America and Asia.
There is a friendship farm with lots of animals that the kids can feed and enjoy. The kangaroos and wallabies range free all through the Aussie billabong which is right next to the koalas.
Of course, there are all the reptiles big and small, long and short as well.
You can have an interactive animal encounter experience at the zoo – some these include:
· Wombat encounter
· Emperor Tamarin encounter
· Dingo encounter
· Tasmanian Devil encounter
· Sun Bear encounter
· Red Panda encounter
· Plus heaps more
Oh, and one of the best parts of this awesome zoo is the train ride that goes from the Big Pineapple all the way through the zoo.
You can bring your own food and have a picnic, but there is a café at the zoo which serves light meals, snacks, hot and cold drinks and ice creams. For something more substantial you can choose to eat at the café at the Big Pineapple.
Entry to the zoo is really affordable – adults $29, kids 3-15 $15, or a family of two kids and two adults is $79.00.
There are lots of family fun things to do in and around Montville – so many that you might have to stay a night or two.
We look forward to seeing you at Montville Mountain Inn soon.
